Tarapur Fort is a historic coastal fort near Tarapur in Palghar district. The fort was an important Portuguese settlement and later came under Maratha control following the campaign of Chimaji Appa in 1739. Its surviving walls, bastions, wells and historic remains reflect the strategic importance of the northern Konkan coast.
